
Leonardo Marini, MD, PhD, Professor
Prof. Leonardo Marini is a renowned expert in laser dermatology and dermatologic surgery, combining extensive training in both general surgery and dermatology. After completing his specialization in General Surgery in 1987 and Dermatology in 1989, he pursued advanced training in dermatologic surgery across the US, Australia, Germany, and France. He currently serves as the Medical Director of The Skin Doctors’ Center (SDC) in Trieste, Italy, and has held academic positions as Professor of Laser Dermatology at the Universities of Siena, Parma, and Verona.
Prof. Marini’s expertise spans the surgical management of skin cancer with Mohs' micrographic surgery, advanced laser and energy-based device applications, photodynamic therapy, and aesthetic dermatology. A visionary in the field, he recognized the transformative potential of lasers for skin treatment long before they became mainstream, which led him to found the European Society for Laser Dermatology (ESLD) in 1996, where he also served as President. He was instrumental in establishing the European Society for Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dermatology (ESCAD). Prof. Marini is currently Chairman of the Laser Dermatology Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), Honorary President of the Hellenic Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and Master Coordinator for ESCAD's International Observational Preceptorship Program. A leading figure in multiple national and international societies including DASIL, European LED Academy, ESMS, ILAD, and SIFCS, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, contributing significantly to advancements in dermatologic and aesthetic laser medicine.
