Dinko Kaliterna: Laser Treatment for Dark Circles Under the Eyes
Dark circles under the eyes are a very common and refractory aesthetic problem. The condition is frequently present in people with neurodermatitis, but sun damage also plays a role. Thin skin under the eyes and veins are also some of the factors which contribute to dark circles. Before treatment, we must determine the cause of the dark circles. Skin care is very important, especially for patients with neurodermatitis. They must avoid water and regularly put skin cream under their eyes. For veins, Nd:YAG laser is the best solution. Fat transfer and filler are an option for thin skin in order to hide muscle ligaments, which give a dark or purplish color. For sun damage and neurodermatitis, there are different laser treatments available: fractional, vascular and pigment. We present a treatment for dark circles in which the patient has neurodermatitis. In the video we have simultaneously used long- and short-pulse Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The average number of treatments for this indication is 3, and the interval between the sessions is around 3 to 4 weeks. The results are highly visible after 30 days and get better over time. Such laser combination treatments offer a promising solution for dark circles under the eyes.
