Michał Nawrocki: How Does the Laser Change our Modern Dentistry?

Dentistry is an extremely fast developing field of medicine, and lasers are the cutting-edge technology used in dentistry. The use of Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers is widespread. Many procedures and treatments are impossible to conduct without a laser, while in some cases it serves only an additional device which is very helpful and enables us to do something better.

In this presentation 3 cases of laser use will be described:

1. Full digital workflow in implant treatment. During the immediate implantation with immediate loading, the Fotona Er:YAG laser was used to remove granulation soft tissue and later for bone ablation. The Fotona Nd:YAG laser was used for disinfection of the post-extraction socket and for biomodulation after the surgery.
2. Implantation with bone distraction (Fotona Er:YAG laser with H14 and H02 handpieces and biomodulation with Nd:YAG laser).
3. Crown lengthening before complex aesthetic restorations (Digital Smile Design and Nd:YAG laser use at first step for soft-tissue followed by Er:YAG laser with H14 handpiece and Chisel Tip for bone preparation).

In the presentation the advantages of using lasers in comparison to regular treatments will be discussed. The use of lasers in dentistry enables us to treat demanding cases much faster and more accurately. This approach gives us convenient and predictable protocols for treatments in implantology and restorations, especially in the aesthetic zone.
