Shlomo Via: Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Periodontal Disease

Periodontitis is a chronic, infectious and opportunistic disease that causes an inflammatory destructive reaction around teeth. This harmful reaction is the main cause of teeth loss in the adult population. Furthermore, periodontal disease can increase the risk for systemic diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke and many others. In order to give an effective treatment, we must adopt an approach that will treat both the inflammatory and the infective arms of this disease. Laser therapy is the only tool that exists today that allows us to give an effective and efficient treatment to both facets of periodontal disease. In this short lecture we will demonstrate two protocols that follow this principle of treatment, with short-term promising results.
