Ana Maletic: Laser Assisted Breast Lipoplasty as a Pre‐treatment for the Reduction Mammaplasty
The reduction and mastopexy of large breasts is a demanding surgical intervention, largely due to preservation of the nipple-areola complex, which largely depends on the distance of the nipple from the jugulum and the midclavicular line. The greater the distance, the lesser the possibility of the preservation of the nipple-areola complex.
In order to prevent complications related to necrosis of the nipple-areola complex, and to reduce the distance of the nipple to the jugulum and the midclavicular line, in the first stage we performed two operations by laser-assisted liposuction with vibrating probes. After three to four months we performed a classical reductive mammoplasty with a significantly lower preservation risk for the nipple- areola complex. Namely, after the first intervention, the distance from the nipple to the jugulum is shortened because of the laser-assisted liposuction and consequently the breast skin is tightened by several centimetres, which facilitates the second surgical intervention and improves the survival of the stems from the nipple-areola complex.
In two cases of younger patients, both were satisfied with the mastopexy and the reduction, which was the result of the laser-assisted liposuction only. The patients opted not to have the second classical surgery.
