Suzana Koltaj: Laser Treatment of Difficult Facial Fungal Skin Infections

We will be presenting the treatment of chronic mycotic dermatitis of the facial skin in the periocular region. The patient suffered symptoms for over 2 years (skin irritation, discomfort, aesthetic consequences), whilst undergoing several dermatological treatments without the desired effect.

We first applied the Nd:YAG laser therapy, continued with SMOOTH Er:YAG (which targeted the continuous skin irritation), with the first positive effects seen in 3 days. The next step in the treatment was diminishment of the edema, which disappeared completely in two weeks.

After 6 months, there is no recurrence; the patient will be monitored further.
