Bogdan Crisan: The Management of Peri-implant Diseases with LightWalker and the Role of the Photobiomodulation step in this Treatment

Peri-implant diseases represent a serious problem after dental implant placement, affecting both the surrounding hard and soft tissue. Various treatment methods are suggested in the treatment of peri-implant diseases, and clinicians have to choose a from among a large number of treatment protocols. Lasers have shown promising therapeutic effect in the treatment of peri-implant diseases. The LightWalker laser system offers the possibility of using two wavelengths (1064 nm and 2940 nm) in treatment of peri-implant diseases. The Twinlight concept has been used in this case study for the treatment of patients with peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Specific protocols will be presented in the handling of these cases, which have been clinically documented regarding pre- and post-operative signs and post-operative patient comfort related to the TwinLight procedures. Photobiomodulation, also known as biostimulation or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), refers to the stimulation of biological systems by means of low light levels with the aim to provide a therapeutic, healing, or cosmetic effect. For LLLT or photobiomodulation to be effective, the applied irradiation parameters, including wavelength, power, irradiance, exposure time, and pulse, need to be applied within limits. The use of the GENOVA handpiece for photobiomodulation effects will be presented as a new step in the management of peri-implant diseases. The results of photobiomodulation with GENOVA hand-piece in experimental studies will also be presented.
